michaelsongs performs 100% original music (yep, no covers*). True to his name, michaelsongs has organically written well over a thousand songs - more than 70 of them just since 2022! His audience equally appreciates the many hooks in his songs that tend to linger in their mind, as well as his interesting improvisations that push his songs’ further evolution.

michaelsongs began writing stories and poems as a young child, and began writing songs around the age of 16. Influences and inspirations include Ani DiFranco, Bob Dylan, Milk Carton Kids, Punch Brothers, & more. He has never used AI for songwriting. michaelsongs has been perfecting the most recent batch of songs by performing over a thousand hours of internet livestreams in the past few years, both on his own successful YouTube channel (@michaelsongs), as well as by being a guest on many other shows, virtual open mics, and virtual concerts/festivals. In addition, michaelsongs has performed at and produced well over 100 in-person gigs this past year at well-known cafes/breweries, outdoor venues, and listening / living room shows in large and intimate settings, as well as incubating and co-hosting the award-winning Original Artist Circuit monthly showcase.

michaelsongs is also a JAMMY Award Winner in the Golden Voice category, and has earned nominations in three other categories: New Trailblazer, Festy, and Gunslinger. An insightful conversationalist, michaelsongs has been interviewed by people throughout the world, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Hawaii, and other places within the USA.

Although michaelsongs has been performing as a solo artist since Dec 2022, he has a long history in music. Born & raised in NJ, he started writing songs as a teenager, then taught himself a variety of instruments: first guitar, then bass, and then he took up drums when he’d saved enough money to buy a drum set. Throughout his teens and twenties, he performed live with several bands in venues around the South Jersey / Philly area.

When the need became apparent, he began running sound at gigs for his own bands, and soon established himself as one of the premiere sound engineers in the area, doing sound for other very well-established bands and festivals up and down the USA’s east coast. This is where he met his amazing wife (she was managing a touring band and hired him to be their sound guy - a role he held for the next decade.). Fast forward 20 years, and now he’s the one she’s managing 😀

Together, and independent of industry representation, they have built all of the above, as well as released a solo debut EP (in CD and digital formats), designed dozens of high-quality, in-demand merch items, and created a successful custom vinyl record campaign, selling out of the collectible they recorded and cut in a studio in Brooklyn, NY.

You can be certain that a michaelsongs show will be full of passion and respect for the craft of performing original songs featuring powerfully rhythmic and delicately melodic guitar-playing and vocals. Be sure to listen to the lyrics, as his songs tell stories of the spectrum of human connection, from a variety of perspectives, blended with vivid imagery.
